Having just discovered how easy CCE make learning a new tune via their weekly tutorial ( http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/mckennas )
i was wondering if anybody knew if they have a specific page on their website for the tutorial section, so that you could just bookmark it and check each week for the new one? Otherwise you have to keep checking to see when they've posted up.
If they're on a specific page then you could browse the tutorial archive as well.
I've looked but to no avail.
Didn't think it would be a problem to cross-ref the CCE site because they actually hat-tip the mustard board! (The conspiracy theorists have just gone into over-drive
I cross-ref the CCE videos with the sesh dot org all the time in the tunes section. I think Willie Fogarty is providing a great resourse. The addition of the videos to the dots in the tune database adds tremendously.
Friend of Willie and the site, and a gernerally all around good egg, but not shaken, and a member in good standing... You could drop Ban a line and if you had a suggestion for the site ~ a want ~ he would be a good set of ears to hear it...
If you're looking for tutorials, enter "tutorials" in the search box and you'll get a list of the pages where video is posted that also mention a tutorial.
Or use an RSS reader (aka newsreader) such as Google Reader to find out when new videos or sheet music are posted. See this page: http://comhaltas.ie/newsletter_feeds/
There are several feeds offered there. If you subscribe to the one called "The Music," I believe it includes everything from the video, audio, and sheet-music feeds.
There's also an option to get a daily e-mail. I haven't tried that because I get the RSS feed.
One more tip: All of the videos have keywords associated with them, displayed in the right-hand column. The keywords associate the video with tune types and instruments. For example, if you see a video that has a concertina in it, "concertina" will be listed as a keyword--and clicking it will bring up *all* of the videos that are so tagged. As far as I can tell, however, "tutorial" is not a keyword, so this method doesn't work for finding tutorials.
Have to agree with jfiddlerh that the tutorial is great resource and particularly as it's accompanied by a video clip. The one he refers to is a very good example at http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_262_5_erin_mcgeown_playing_mckennas as not only is the playing very good but the fiddler is also very easy on the eye!
Have to also agree with PB that Willie Fogarty is doing a great job here and has been doing so for close on four years now (keep up the good work Willie!); credit is also due to the contributors who have provided their music so generously to us all over the years.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Ceolachan but unfortunately I can't be of any help with all this high tech stuff such as RSS feeds, downloads, etc. However, "I do know a man who can" and when he returns from holiday in a couple of weeks time I'll ask him to have a look at making "tutorial" a keyword.
