I recently upgraded to Firefox 3 on both my work computer (Windows XP) and home computer (Mac OS X 10.5). Now I've found that the Comhaltas videos, like this one, http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_262_7_breda_and_aidan_shannon/, won't play on either platform. There's nothing but a small block of white space in the place where the inline video player normally appears. I can still view these videos in IE on my Windows computer and in Safari on the Mac, so all is not lost, but it would be nice to get this site working on Firefox again.
I've made sure that I have the current Flash player installed. I can view inline videos on other sites. Any ideas?
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
I had the same (or similar) problem recently. It was caused by my firewall. I had to explicitly allow the execution of mobile code from the Comhaltas site for the videos to work.
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
Thanks, kkrell. Your report of no problems spurred me to think what my two machines had in common. I started disabling Firefox extensions that I had installed on both machines. Sure enough, I found that "Adblock" was the culprit. I had previously disabled that extension in the status bar, but that wasn't sufficient -- I found that it had to be disabled from the Add-Ons window.
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
I just added comhaltas.ie to the allow list for AdBlock Plus to fix this problem. I don't think there are any ads, just a Google Analytics javascript that prevents the video from loading if you block it.
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
The problem I had was caused not by Adblock Plus but by Adblock, an older extension from a different developer. I've installed Adblock Plus in its place and now the Comhaltas videos display fine for me, even without whitelisting comhaltas.ie.
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
Firefox 3 is still in a beta stage, considering the huge number of problems that have been reported, and should not have been released. I'd strongly advise going back to a late version of Firefox 2.
Re: Comhaltas site videos don't display in Firefox 3
New releases of just about anything generate reports of problems. I've been using FF3 intensively for 2 weeks, on both Win and Mac, and I'm delighted with the results. The issue that led me to start this thread is the only problem I've encountered, and I traced it to an extension that hasn't been updated in two years. The speed improvement with FF3 is so great that I wouldn't go backward, even if pages occasionally have to be viewed in another browser (which was the case with all versions of FF2, as well).

Your link above works fine for me: Firefox 3, XP Home, current Flash Player.

I was using Adblock Plus, so no problem. Using the EasyList USA filters. BTW, csharpd, you wouldn't happen to be a Craig, would you?

"csharpd, you wouldn't happen to be a Craig, would you?"
No, not in any way I can think of.
