I'm looking for suitable duets to play at an upcoming wedding....fiddle/violin with flute, but music can be written for two violins/fiddles. If you can make any suggestions, I would be very grateful. My email is davidh@rogers.com
Use the search function, I used 'wedding tunes" and found several discussions regarding this topic. There are many suggestions contained within the discussions. Not sure about the "duet" concept, though...
It depends on what part of the wedding you're playing for.
I just played for my friends' wedding. We did contemporary worship music and a hymn during the service. Afterwards, while the bride and groom were taking pictures, I played solo in the room where people were eating hors deuvres. I played stuff like Planxty Fanny Power, An Gaoth Aneas (The South Wind), the Unst Bridal March, and assorted jigs, reels, strathspeys, etc. For some interesting duet ideas (albeit with a slightly different range), perhaps consult Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas' albums?
If you are good at improvisation (and most trad musicians are), you might have the fiddle do the "main" part of the Pachelbel Canon and the flute/whistle improvise within it. Pretty easy. Done it a hundred times.
There are samples of tunes Linda Hickman recorded on my website, www.edsaultz.com. Click o the "Services" link along the top then the link to "Wedding Ceremony Samples" about mid-page. We play some of these at the ceremonies we're asked to do.
There are a couple of good books out there...#1. Airs for Pairs, there are at least 2 vol. that I know of and #2. Trad. tunes for two fiddlers..I have Vol. 1 so I assume there are at least 2 there as well..

Re: Wedding Tunes
I have used both "Down by Sally Gardens" and "Blind Mary" as processionals and "Calliope House" as the recessional.
