Sadly, tradtunes.com is no longer doing it. They used to be almost like the iTunes of trad, for purchasing and downloading recordings.
You will also find a large amount of Irish stuff on YouTube. And I occasionally surf MySpace for stuff. You can find some interesting stuff by going to the MySpace page of a trad band that you like, and then exploring by visiting their "friends". I've found some cool stuff that way!
Don't forget to check out the Comhaltas site (http://comhaltas.ie) where there's a new free video clip most days and a full 20 minute programme once a week. You can access the archive of previous material over at http://comhaltas.ie/music/archive/C62/.
A lot of CDs can be bought through Amazon and some of the other online retailers. But with trad, you can often get them directly from the artists' websites...
I hadn't realized tradtunes suspended its service - thanks for the heads up. (I just looked at the message on the site.) I only bought from them occasionally, but that was a good source for some things I couldn't get elsewhere.
If you're willing to have a subscription, eMusic.com has a very good selection of Irish music, although you sometimes have to be creative in your searching technique to discover it all.
I've also gotten CDs and downloads from cdbaby.com, which is a clearing house for a lot of independently produced recordings.
i do youtube. thousands and thousands of trad tunes. good users are comhaltas, tg4gaeilge (not affiliated), clarebannerman. if you want to download, you could use audacity to record the soundcard output... but i just listen online.

Re: download music
Some people have been uploading clips of themselves to the site Soundlantern. Some mighty fine playing in those clips.
Here are a couple:
http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedUser.do?UsName=willcpt&UsId=1131
http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedUser.do?UsName=benhall_1&UsId=1134
http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedSoundPage.do?ToId=4062&Path=fahysmixdown.mp3
There are probably many other good musicians on Soundlantern, but those are the ones I came up with off the top of my head.

Re: download music
you can also check itunes, and amazon.com. many cd's that are available for purchase on amazon are downloadable in entirety or by track.
