I was wondering if any of ye had ever attended the summer school on Achill island, I am interested in taking the accordion course and just wanted to see what others had experienced?
Ive never been but my friend said its brilliant.Classes start at ten and finish at one.I think im going myself so maybe ill be in your class!!Are you a beginer or intermediate or advance???
Im advanced.....i hope!!!!! Im told that Fiachna O'Mongain is teaching beginers, Tommy Doherty intermediate and P.J Hernon advanced.Yep im told it is a great festivel......not too many people, just the right amount.Hope to see you there....how will i know you??
I was on Achill Island during the summer school last year, although I didn't attend classes. In fact, there was little evidence that there was anything going on there - it's a very different affair from Willie Week, Drumshanbo etc., so don't expect a week of wall-to-wall sessions. But there are mountains to climb, deserted villages to explore and beaches to lie on after classes - unless you were thinking of practising. If you talk to the right people, you'll find a session in the evening. There are recitals as well - I got to hear, among others, Peter Horan and Gerry Harrington last year.
It sounds the like a nice warm up week before the madness of the fleadh! I used to go to the tir na nog granama, I imagine Foxy and the boys are still flying!
Well guys, glad to hear ye're thinking of making a trip to Scoil Acla. If ye need any info checkout the website www.scoilacla.com or just tag on your questions and i'll try to deal with them.Hopefully i see ye here. Diarmuid
