Now that we're a little less than a week away from Willie Week, I reckon we should try to organize a session.org session. It was great craic last year and I think the greatness ought to be repeated this year.
We should pick a day, place, time to gather and then wander through town looking for space to play. Probably Tuesday or Wednesday at 2-ish would be pretty good (that lull in the afternoon when you are likely to find room in a pub). I'm spacing the names of the pubs so someone should pick one.
If we set a specific place and time it will work. Some of us know each other already so there will be people standing around in a conspicuous looking group. I will be easy to locate anyway as there are not too many American girls with long hair and pipes cases wandering around.
Why don't you all make paper hats, then you could don those on the day and time of contact and all walk into and down the main drag of Miltown? It could be a special parade, though more ambling and looking sheepish than actual marching with intent... Or ~ just get a kazoo and practice playing the same tune on it, some feisty march, then you could all gather with your paper hats and kazoos and proudly start your gathering to march to the pub for a session. The joy of a kazoo is you can play it hands free...and loud enough to draw attention to yourselves...
This sounds great. I am very new and very interested. I will be buying a kazoo but none of you will recognise me anyway. I will be there Tues and Wed on main drag at 2pm anyway so.
Well you can stand near us and then that solves the problem!
I might just take my kazoo along as well seeing as it seems to be undergoing a revival on this thread. It is gold and I got it along with a triangle as a leaving present from an old job (along with a truly dreadful compilation CD!) Not as cool as the kazoo with in-built pick-up that a friend of mine has but it does the job.
So if you see a guy holding a guitar case and playing the kazoo (and probably on his own if engaging in said practice) then that'll be me!
Think of me, while you're enjoying the craic I will be scooping ice-cream for tourists and trying to make them believe that I am a Russian fifth-year medical student at Cambridge. It's amazing what people will believe (or pretend to believe...)
So if any of you are in BATH over the summer and see a short girl who looks about 10 years old scooping ice cream and claiming to be a captain in the Navy, that's probably me. Give me the code word "nyah" and we can have a chat.
I would love to come to this session if somebody will sponsor me a.k.a. buy me a plane ticket! Eh? any takers? *nudge nudge*?
*waits*.....
Aw..North America makes you miss all the good stuff.
For anyone after a good session - you know a proper sing-around with some great picking and percussion then you can meet me outside Friel's. We can boo across the street at them.
You will easily recognise me. I will be the one in the "I love James Taylor" t-shirt, carrying the kazoo.
i wouldn't go to friels at that time! the front part is usually occupied (it changes over the days) between paul o'shaughnassy, m o'murchu, sean ryan, the mccarthys, i saw alec finn and derek hickey on the thursday last year. and the back part is the john kelly session. so you'd probably be best to wait until later on if you want to play there or your best bet is to go to the bellbridge, thats the best time of day to go because there is lots of space.
It will be okay. While No Cause For Alarm is having his dot reading sing song session he can write a song about who has the car keys and how he is going to hitchhike back to Scotland. It will be a hit song.

Hopefully I will catch you during the week at some point.

Now that I am probably going expect everyone else to pull out. There should be plenty of room in the pubs.

SilverSpear, you with one kazoo in the middle of town could be all you'd need to draw the rest out to join the fun...

I'm going to wear a t-shirt with someone else's session name on it, just to spread mayhem... now who shall it be.... ?

Re: Thesession.org session
I'll be instantly recogniseable by my absence.
de Selby - You can use mine if you want. Then I'll change my username to add to the confusion.

Re: Thesession.org session
Well if it helps TheSilverSpear will be standing next to a rather dashing young guitar player - that should narrow the search down a bit!

Re: Thesession.org session
Of course I don't want to put anyone from South London off from joining us! Melody instruments are welcome too.

Re: Thesession.org session
I reckon you could swim, If you ask Google for directions from North America to somewhere in the UK or Ireland, I believe that's what it recommends.
Anyone who is there and is up for a session, we'll attempt to gather in front of the Malbay at 2pm on Tuesday.
If you want to bring a laptop, that's cool. We can use it as a bodhran.

As long as I tell them the key in advance they should be ok at following on - right?
I could bring the song books if you think that would help. Then they could play from the dots.
