I am trying to find a decent banjo to play Irish music on. I played as a child in Ireland and now am interested in starting again. Saw a Fairbanks/Vega tenor for $400. It says its dated 1920. Would this be a decent buy and ok for playing irish tunes?
fwiw, an identical one to this one sold for about $1200 from the same shop last month. An excellent local player has been playing one of these for years and it sounds fantastic.

Re: Fairbanks/Vega tenor banjo
It depends on the individual banjo. Vega made some very good banjos.
A lot of it is personal preference. I like the tubaphone banjos for Irish, but I'm not crazy about the Little Wonder ones.
If you have a chance to play the banjo, that can tell you a lot. And a good setup is key.
Do you know what model it is?

I've been watching this one for a few weeks and now it looks like she's finding a new home:
