Re: Gerry O Conner Banjo

That's a bit of a tall order! I'm not sure even Gerry would in one of his tutor books - or not beyond the basics.

Hope that doesn't sound churlish - it's not meant to.

Mind you, I'd appreciate it if someone did!

Re: Gerry O Conner Banjo

Have you heard God O'Connor play The Teatotaler? In the b part a nice little variation he does- i believe its in the fourth bar-he does a cross picking syncopated type of thing which is played thus- Add-Add-Ad where A is !st string 5th fret and d is 2nd string 5th fret. Its a picking pattern that you can adopt in many reels with out too much trouble. If you want to see that cross picking stuff check out musicmoose.org or musicmoose on you tube and there is a fantastic demonstration of cross picked mandolin.

Re: Gerry O Conner Banjo

Not everyones cup of tea as it strays outside of traditional boundaries but its a stunning technique when you hear it especially over 3 strings. Check out Damian O'Kane for some good examples especially a tune called Accupuncture.

Re: Gerry O Conner Banjo

The session member 'ridge' used to have a web page with full transcription of Gerry O'Connor's versions of Bag of Spuds and the Copperplate (both several pages of notes and tab). The web page is no longer working but he was very helpful at the time (a couple of years ago). Try emailing him through this site.
