Tradition singer needs contact with scots and their songs
Tradition singer needs contact with scots and their songs
Dear Folk,
I am a tradition singer (from a long way away)coming to Scotland for the very first time for a competition in Wales. I want to spend as much time in the Edinburgh area as possible- or wherever else I can find a song or 3 or a singer or 3 or a pint or 3.
I am a good sport and do not create too much mischief- just enough to stay interesting.
I am deeply in love with the Scots song tradition.
Please be in contact with me.
I need you and your songs.
I want to be your friend.

I'm sure some kind folk on the Session might be able to help but you might get closer to the "mother lode" by going to www.footstompin.com, which based in Scotland and has a forum a bit like this (except possibly more argumentative!).
Re: Tradition singer needs contact with scots and their songs
I hate to be a pedant, especially to an overseas contributor.............BUT Wales is not in Scotland, as your first sentence seems to imply. One is a country, one is a principality, both are part of the larger United Kingdom.
Do you mean you are coming for the Eisteddfodd, and then moving on to Scotland ?
There is certainly plenty of music and song to be found in Scotland - this forum is probably not the best of all places to find song information - try an advanced google for Scottish ( or Scots, but NEVER Scotch, that's only whisky ) folksong clubs.
Good luck.

I warned you about the predatory pedantry and, sure enough, you take a triple whammy for geography, history and language in the next post All in a friendly spirit, I should say!

"IS based in Scotland!" - beware, there are predatory grammarians on both sites!

Hey 'Pete Pedant', {
}
...... & pray tell, what about Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb & ye good olde Scotch Eggs?
Yes Minne, if I were you, I'd check out the 'Footstompin' forum.

I also have some beautiful Scottish singers on My own MySpace, although most do sing in Gaelic, but I'm sure they'd be able to help you.
