The late 'Joe Ryan' on YouTube.

The late 'Joe Ryan' on YouTube.

I was delighted to find this little video clip of a session we enjoyed with Joe Ryan, Kathleen Smyth & Caroline O'Rourke last summer at 'The Becks' outside Ashbourne.

Many thanks to John King for posting this.

P.S. I had already posted this on the Joe Ryan memorial discussion last night, but just in case interested folks here miss that, now old & lost in the vaults, discussion, I thought it worthy of posting again here, for ALL to see & hear.

Thanks very much. Love your playing by the way.... your sound lantern site is highly impressive. I havent managed to listen to it all but certainly will. Excellent production.

Thanks Ptar. Nice video. I've always been a fan of Clare fiddling [the old way.] Players like Joe Ryan, Paddy Canny, P.J. Hayes and John Kelly have impressed me endlessly.

Is the Kathleen Smith in that video the same Kathleen that is wife to Tony Smith?

Re: The late 'Joe Ryan' on YouTube.

You are very welcome guys. It was of course a huge honour for me to be sitting in on that delightful session that night, with such fine musicians.

I'll let you into a secret, in such company I try & play as quietly as possible, but if you do hear any bum notes on that video .... you can be 100% sure that they were mine. :-(

Paddy, a clue to the answer to your question, is in the spelling of Smith / Smyth! ;-)

Hey jig, you are being too kind ....... no really, you are being too kind. Fact is, I did all that stuff using musical mirrors! :-D

Very flattering I'm sure jig, & maybe one day I'll get it right, but I have a very long road in front of me. However, let's get real here, eh, cause let's face it, although they were fun to do, all of my Lantern tracks don't even add up to the value of just one of Joe Ryan's. He really was a very fine musician indeed.

I hope more video clips of Joe's lovely music are posted on YouTube.

Cheers
Dick
