Hi all, Im a flute/whistle player. The wife and I are travelling by motorhome around Ireland from approx 7th July to 9th August. I intend travelling from Dublin down south to Waterford, around to Cork then towards Kenmare, up to Galway, Westport to visit Malloys, up to Sligo, then Ballyshannon.
I have trawled the various session/event sites to make an intinery/route etc, there appears to be plenty caravan parks for stopping so so far so good, cept fuel prices..lol. Question for the members in afore mentioned areas is. Is there any particular event / fleadh other than Dublin 7th, Kenmare 14th and Ballyshannon start of August we should be aiming for.
Thanks in anticipation
Hi, There is a full week of irish music song and dance from 4thAugust to 9thAugust inclusive in Sligo town - music sessions, singing sesssions, concerts and ceili at Queen Maeve Summer School festival.
For more enquiries call 087 6250454
A big thank you to Bernie, cStu, Riada, Floss the Tethers, Carmel Gunning and Paddyc for your input. All noted and being looked at.
Its our first trip there so we are really looking forward to it myself for the music my missus for the sights, seems to be lots on offer for us both. Cheers
If you want a good mix of sights and sounds then the two best festivals (aside from Willie Clancy Week) are Joe Mooney Summer School in Drumshanbo and Donegal Fiddle Week in Glencolmcille. (4th-8th Aug)
Drumshanbo is in Leitrim and Leitrim is one of the most underrated counties in Ireland, not only is it a great place for music but there is some wonderful scenery in the county, particularly around the lakes.
Musically Donegal Fiddle Week is really only for you if you like Donegal Fiddle Music, but if you do it's pure heaven cos most of the best Donegal Fiddlers go there and added to that Glencolmcille is a really breath-taking area.
