I would not call Seamus arrogant, merely honest. I admit he does not suffer fools gladly, but given the amount of complaints on this site about "bad" bodhran and guitar players, I fear he is not alone.
He's only a musician.
I hate the holier than thou Cultural snobbery vibes he puts across....and that others lap up from him.
He is a character, a great player, but thats it.
I've enjoyed playing music with him a few times, but I'd never have him over for a spliff and a game of chess...Same with MacMahon. Both inspiring and amazing musicians. but thats where I'd draw the line!
I don't believe threads like this are either useful or helpful (especially from a poster whose opening line in his blog is 'I like big butts and I can not lie').
Séamus's reputation is well known and most of it's unjustly acquired (though I'd side with Hugo regarding my desire to invite him into my house).
Believe me, there are some Irish musicians, far better known than Séamus, whose behaviour would really be well worthy of sanction, but I've no intention of mentioning their names here.
"I don't believe threads like this are either useful or helpful"
Well no-one forced you to read or respond. Most posts on this board can be summed up as being useless and unhelpful, especially with a certain group of idiots who speak with great authority on things they know feck all about. Which brings me to my next point:
"Believe me, there are some Irish musicians, far better known than Séamus"
Really? Who? Everyone in ITM knows Tansey, with the exception of a certain female accordion player from Kerry, but that's certainly been rectified. Don't confirm your ignorance by typing rubbish. I suggest next time you see a post you don't like, walk away, just walk away.
Oh, dearie, me WG - you really are 1) about four years out of date and, 2) out of both your depth and league.
The majority of the Irish population has not heard of Séamus Tansey, but certainly would recognise some of the names that I'm never going to mention on this site because (unlike you) I don't believe in slamming people on public fora (and don't come back here and suggest that your posting of this thread was an attempt to rehabilitate ST's reputation).
As for ignorance, have you actually met ST? I have, and, believe me, he doesn't deserve the attention of a gobsh*te like you.
Remind me again. What exactly have you contributed to the world of ITM?
I've met Seamus, played with him a few times in Belfast. I don't know if Worzel has met him, because alas Floss, you answered the question you asked Floss.
Seamus is/was a musician, that was his chosen path, so he played all over for little recompense, and that caused the trouble with the female from Kerry. He also liked a drink, which made a whole in the little recompense.
Not the worst person in the world, always friendly with me, and a good player.
seen him on the Dub - B'fast train last Monday as I was getting off in Dundalk for Rose O'Connors wake. He was holding court for two ageing millies. I also saw him on a train a few years ago where he was wearing a berret and shades with the famous flute holster attached to his trousers. He had a sleeping bag tied up with two kipper ties. I only could imagine where he was coming from. (or going to!)
He is playing this week sometime in the cobblestones, Dublin. An ignorant geneous who we will have nice things to say about once he's gone.

Re: seamus tansey
Ooo, I know this one! I've read enough of this silly board in my life. Let me think...
"Brilliant but eccentric musician, arrogant windbag, ill-tempered such and such..."
Am I right here?
I checked the memory banks, a good read:

Ignore his comments just listen to his music and tell the world of his genius.

Excellent player, never did me any wrong.

Honesty is always in short supply, so there's nothing wrong with that, Mr. bliss.

Re: seamus tansey
I saw him in concert earlier this year and I though he was brilliant. Maybe a bit of arrogance is the right of the truely talented??

Re: seamus tansey
Great player. Has anyone else read his book with his thoughts on various Sligo players present and past ? An interesting read.
