There were a number of responses, that seemed to indicate that, yes, the response time had been slow, and no, it's not your connection, as I wondered, Once of the suggestions was "Yeah, or just get everybody to send him a couple quid through the "Make a Donation" link... I try to do that occasionally..."
So, I clicked the "Make A Donation" button, just below 'Frequently Asked Questions" to the right and made a donation. I encourage, no entreat, everyone who uses The Session to do the same. Seems to me that this website is such a resource for all of us, that a donation every once on a while is not unreasonable.
So, Jeremy, it's not much. but it is a start; and I hope others will heed my example and flood you with some cash to maintain and improve what you're are doing here.
"Hey folks, Buster Bodhran here, ace sports reporter. We're coming to you live from the 2008 thesession.org telethon. Operators are standing by right now to take your calls! Let's go live to the phones right now!"
"Hi, thanks for calling the..."
"Yeah, I want a large pizza with pepperoni, sausage, um...green peppers..."
"I'm sorry sir, this is thesession.org's 2008 telethon hotline, would you care to make a donation?"
"What?!? Who is this?"
"This is ace sports reporter Buster Bodhran at thesession.org..."
"WHO?!?! I'm starving over here, I need a pizza!" [click]
There's so much stuff on the net you can get for free but I think it's good to support someone who offers, but doesn't demand payment for, a great service. There's stuff here you couldn't buy for any money. I've done my bit for now.
the trouble with all these forums,is that certain people can be personally abusive and get away with it.
Mudcat seems to be the worst offender, but it happens here occasionally as well
I wonder.whether, who you know comes into the equation,or is it how much a person donates?if for example someone donates 500 to lets say hypothetically Mudcat, are the moderators going to be more tolerant of the donator if he /she gets personally abusive.
So you're saying nobody should support Jeremy because he might play favorites with people *you* don't like ? Maybe if you donate *more*, he'll like you more, Dick.
no Rev,I am saying that the sytem could be open for abuse, not that it is.
Neither did I say people should not donate.
Neither did I say, that it was people I didnt like that got favourable treatment.
I saw an interesting innovation at an internet forum in the States recently. Similar format to this (except you can edit within 15 minutes after your post).
Any poster that steps over the line, gets abusive, or whatever, the moderator simply throws them into the slammer. They can talk to other posters also in the slammer but not on the main board. Meanwhile, the rest of the board can see the posts between people in the slammer, and the 'prisoners' can see out on the board, but can't post.
Very funny.
And - to get out of the slammer, the errant poster has to *cut a deal* with the moderator; or stay in purgatory.
OK, I took implication where none was meant, apparently.
But a website like this is not a democracy, where everybody gets a vote, and we have a bill of rights giving us all equal protection by law. So technically, there's nothing wrong with a moderator being more tolerant of a person because he donated, or whatever. There's nothing to "get away with", no laws are being broken, and nobody is forcing anybody to be a member here, or to put up with things that they find offensive...
!@£$%^&*(), I think there is another thread suggesting the introduction of a dating service on the board, which may fulfill your, ahem, desires. In the meantime, please be aware that masterbating over your keyboard will probably result in serious damage to your computer.
"you're erroneously assuming that some misguided soul somewhere in the world is actually willing to bear your child(ren)."
you're erroneously assuming I'm offering to donate my sperm for the purposes of bearing children. My sperm has many uses........
and de Sleby, I'm not sure what 'masterbating' is. perhaps you mean masturbating, which is a disgusting habit I frown upon. I have slave girls to help me donate my sperm............
Reverend, do you want to bannish all the contributing members to this board? And I happen to know that !@£$%^&*() has two children already. They're called ¨¨^^$*'??:% and £$£6é€!!.
"Thanks for calling the 2008 thesession.org telethon, ace reporter Buster Bodhran here! Would you care to make a donation to help this excellent website?"
[creepy quiet voice] "I want to donate my sperm."
"...uh...excuse me sir?"
"My sperm, I want to donate my sperm."
[sighs, rubs eyes] "Oh, to hell with it, will that be Master Card of Visa then?"
"Sorry?"
"Your sperm, are you delivering your sperm via Master Card or Visa? We'll also accept a personal check."
"..."
"OH YEAH? DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY THERE, DIDJA, TOUGH GUY? HA HA HA!" [click]
[fumbles with bottle, pours shot, downs it, takes deep breath]
"Thanks for calling the 2008 thesession.org telethon, ace reporter Buster Bodhran here..."
When I started this thread, I didn't realize there were so many morons out there that are incapable of being serious about donating. I guess that is the pitfall of having no policing of the posts here. To some folks, I guess the board is an opportunity to act out with anonymity.
No doubt further inappropriate comments will be made in response to my latest post, so be it. Revel in your juvenile behavior!
So, with that in mind, if you want to donate, do so; if you want to be infantile, you're free to do so. No need to post if you're going to donate, let your wallet speak for itself.
you're the one who's infantile Celtic Guitar if you think your post was just going to be taken seriously. How long have you been using this site?!!!
Lighten up for fecks sake......
Also I find your pleas for donations to the site kind of irritating in a Bono kind of way. If people feel like donating they will, no need to make a charity case out of thesession.org........
If Jeremy had trouble keeping this site going I'm sure he'd make a plea and that'd be fair enough but I think it's a bit patronising for you to
(a) make a plea on his behalf and
(b) reprimand people for taking the p*ss out of it.
"...yes Bob, it's truly amazing down here. I've covered fights where hockey games have broken out before, but I've never volunteered for a telethon where a fight broke out, this is a new one by me."
"That's amazing Buster, I've noticed this happens a lot to you. You think it may be something about your personality?"
"That's not funny Bob. You keep it up and I'll leave a 'donation' on your car windshield."
!@£$%^&*() you are indeed a grumpy old sod! There's nothing wrong with dropping Jeremy a few bucks or posting a thread stating it might be a good idea...
"...I find your pleas for donations to the site kind of irritating in a Bono kind of way"--WHAT A PUTZ! Why don't you "lighten up for fecks sake."
If you use Paypal to donate, is that not traditional? The good old snail mail is how they used to do it in Ireland. I can't tolerate someone coming into a session and offering to donate to this site electronically. It's just not good session etiquette.
So there.

Does it have to be in US dollars?
Would he, or I (in donating what I intended) lose out in exchanging?
