Some people may remember there was a disagreeable individual who was posting a while ago, possibly not on this site, insisting that Pete Cooper was no better a musician than an English Morris-fiddler, and should not be considered worthy of any attention.
I would suggest that there a a large number of fiddle-players who have gone through his classes and would mightily disagree with that opinion.
He also performs in a number of different line-ups, including Rattle The Stovepipe, and I would recommend catching him at one of his gigs whenever the opportunity arises.
"no better a musician than an English Morris-fiddler" says Pete.
No better than what? No better than an English Morris Fiddler at playing music for English Morris? If not that, then what?
Would you kindly explain yourself Sir!
It was a double slur, both at Pete Cooper, and also at Morris fiddlers, but the implication was that Pete was only good enough for playing for the Morris ( I well know that this takes a particular skill, and is not to be disparaged ) and that he should not be considered fit for anything better, like the Pure Drop.
Which was balderdash, of course.
And....the complainant in question was an american, and we've already had the discussions about needing to be from the bogs of the Auld Sod to be fit to play the music, as well, haven't we ?
I don't know how some people get these attitudes, I have a friend who has taken against Paul Brady for reasons I can't believe - I can take or leave his rock'n'roll, but let him loose on a trad song or tune and he is still magic IMNSHO.

"Peter Cooper's Bow Hold"...that just sounds dirty. It begs to be followed with "if you know what I mean..."

Re: pete coopers bow hold
Anyhow...that's a good video. Pretty reasonable and uncontroversial stuff I'd say.
