Re: riverdance

River Dance is very popular. I'm not sure that I can answer your question. But I would be interested to know what instrument you play. Have you been interested in Irish Traditional for very long?

Re: riverdance

I have the songbook for "Riverdance"...very tough music if you're only used to playing ITM. Different keys and some strange timing, but really nice stuff.

Re: riverdance

Yuck. With so much wonderful trad music around why bother with this gimmicky tourist stuff.

Re: riverdance

There's nothing gimmicky about riverdance, It's what started the world's interest in Irish music and there are some mighty fine dancers in it too.

Re: riverdance

Eep. Can we just say that Riverdance isn't exactly traditional music and that it's very fine stuff indeed if you keep that in mind? I don't want to repeat this argument again! ;)

Zina

P.S. Keeping in mind that I have a JOB because of Riverdance, as it started so many people wanting to stepdance that there are now six Irish dancing schools in the Boulder/Denver area alone...

Re: riverdance

Six Irish Dancing Schools...
I keep on getting this strange image of six school buildings, throughout the Boulder/Denver area, rising up from their concrete foundations to do an Irish jig, with lumps of mortar falling off and windows smashing, and all the kids rushing out into the street, screaming...
Hell. Must phone my analyst again....

Re: riverdance

that'll be from dancing on the fault lines domhniall)
Anywaz tanx for the replies though im still none the wiser. Im actually irish but i play guitar (rock etc) and i want to learn this piece. I actuallly like gimmicky stuff like this as its really fun to do at a gig or whatever.

Famous classical pieces, melodys, trad irish/ even tv jingles etc can all raise a laugh 9or an eyebrow) at a gig and there a bit of a challange as well.

Ill probably just find someone with the record and learn it by ear, the problem with that is by the time ive managed to figure the tune out ill be totally sick of it. so the tab or even a score sheet would have been the biz. Anyway if you got it you can reach me at litmusicsock@yahoo.com or whatever.
