RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Last week I watched the first programme in 'The Full Set'
series with great delight.Frankie Gavin and Mairtin O'Connor
played as well if not better than I've ever seen them. There was
also the bonus of seeing Mairead Mooney sharing a tune at the end.I looked forward to seeing Mick o' Connor and
Kevin O'Raghallaigh in this week's programme. I have not heard much of them, but
when I have,I've really enjoyed their playing. When I tried to watch the programme, a notice appeared saying that it could
not be viewed outside Ireland. It appears to be copyright
problems that are preventing it.Does anyone know the
background to this and whether or not it is likely to be resolved?
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
I just gave it a bangaround and it seems not to working for me. I'll have another go at it later, but seems RTE's 1-upped the proxies. Maybe some decent human being will have it up on youtube for us by sundown tomorrow.
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
i tried last week from the cyber-cafe where i have watched all "full sets," and listen to clare fm and other international programs, but was dismayed to be unable to access the new "full set." disgusting.
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Yeah, I discovered this issue last night too. Tried the proxy method but no joy. It's almost depressing - I'd really enjoyed the first two programmes. Let's hope some kindly person in the republic will see their way clear to uploading the new ones to youtube.
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Yes , this is irritating in this day and age of high tech. I wonder whether we all outside Ireland should e-mail RTE and they might succumb. Surely they would like their programmes made available to us the wider Diaspora!
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
I rather imagine its due to copyright issues. Each country's laws are different, and perhaps RTE worries about inadvertantly violating the law in another country. Is it only the most recent episode, or are programs you've been able to watch in the past also blocked? That assumes you would normally be able to watch archived shows, of course. It may be that they couldn't get copyright clearance for an artist on the latest episode only, or it may be a change in policy.
Personally, I have no ethical problem with downloading copyrighted material that I can't get any other way, whether via YouTube or Torrent, particularly since folks here are likely to happily pay money to see these artists in person whenever possible, or to seek out their music to purchase. So I don't mind suggesting following one of the links this google search turned up: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=RTE+%22the+full+set%22+torrent
Video downloaded via torrent tends to be higher quality than anything on YouTube, so it's what I'd do. You'd need software like that found at http://www.utorrent.com

'Personally, I have no ethical problem with downloading copyrighted material that I can't get any other way, whether via YouTube or Torrent, particularly since folks here are likely to happily pay money to see these artists in person whenever possible, or to seek out their music to purchase.'
Then you certainly have lots of other ethical problems, buddy!
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Maybe so, but I'm with hotsauce here. Sure, it's just rehashing an old argument (which I'd pray to avoid here, in full), but simply put, the music is meant to be listened to!
Besides, it's a TV program, so what's the difference between the public accessing the material by turning on their TV set or loading it up on the web? The amount of viewers and how they view shouldn't change the amount of money or respect Ronan and Caoimhin get, right?
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Just for arguments sake: 'Music is to be listened to', sure, but what makes you think you're entitled to a service RTE is providing for those paying the license fee? It's doing it's job as the national broadcaster after all.
I could also imagine that the production company that made the program would like a shot at trying to sell it to broadcasters abroad and I can imagine they licensed RTE for broadcast in Ireland only. .
Re: RTE's 'The Full Set':why prevent it from being seen outside Ireland?
Spot on about that, Mac. It confuses the hell out of me - especially when people can watch program 1 but not program 2, while series 1 is all set and series 2 is piecemeal...What can you tell us to enlighten it all?

Try a public proxy server:
http://bestproxy.info/ireland/proxy.php
or
http://www.publicproxyservers.com/
and you should be able to view the show.

Strangely, series one is unaffected.

The first series of The Full Set can be found on torrent sites, but not the current one, as far as I know.

Dan the Man, you haven't a clue about copyright law, have you, or about the TV licensing legislation in Ireland and the UK?

I tried to get munchhausen's syndrome by proxy, but that didn't work either.
