going to a summer school with a stagi concertina ?
Hello everyone!
I'm planning to attend the concertina classes at the Willie Clancy week in Miltown Malbay, but i was wondering if you're still welcome with a stagi concertina or any other cheap concertinas. Of course it's an anglo in C/G, but still...
And by the way, what about camping in Miltown ? are there any spots to avoid?

Don't think you'll meet too much instrument snobbery down in classes at Miltown - main thing is to be able to play a few tunes!
Can't speak directly for concertina but was at a button accordion class a few years ago and all sorts of instruments were there from the cheapest Chinese to the best you can get.

No Problem at all. My daughter started out with a cheap (borlingwood) concertina and never had any problem with attending the classes. You may smile when you hear some people in the classes with the best of instruments struggle to play , a good instrument alone does not make you a good mucsicaian. it can actually be more imbarrasing for the ones with good instruments when they hear what can be achieved with less than perfect instruments Enjoy the classes, a great week.

Charles ive being to two willie clancy weeks and i was sat in a room with twenty other banjo players with brand new banjos (all sorts) and the one most teachers picked up to play was my old 17 fret vega .this is the type of banjo you want its got a lovely sound they all said. So go along and have a great time des

I think they'd _have_ to allow it. How many beginners would
spend thousands on a concertina - you'd have to be rich or
crazy.

I don't know how about yours but those that I've seen in Waltons were out of tune. so perhaps check if that's ok before going to the classes.

Have a look at a Rochelle concertina - no dearer - much better - more buttons.
