Re: fleadh nua / november festival

the tradfest in november has a much better buzz about it i think, more sessions, top lineup concerts, trad discos!!!!! most people i know would go to the november one anyways.

Re: fleadh nua / november festival

I don't know about Ennis being packed, not this morning anyway. There were probably a lot of people in for the parade and the gig rig at the weekend, in previous years though I noticed there was not a trace of anything going on in town during the week.

That aside, Fleadh nua and trad fest are very different events.

Re: fleadh nua / november festival

I'm not sure I would describe the Fleadh Nua as 'fun'. Didn't find much happening the one time I did attend. For listeners November is much better and definitely has more of a buzz. That said its all about pub gigs and big name bands. Too formalised for my liking. Still more fun than Comhaltas sponsored Fleadh Nua.

Re: fleadh nua / november festival

One time I was walking up the street and saw Martha Clancy and a few others playing music in O'Brien's sandwich shop, it seemed very awkward until I realised there must be a festival or other happening. It seemed very forced and out of place. It's gigs all over and as the chamber of commerce has it 'it bring millions in business to the town'.

Re: fleadh nua / november festival

Just like Comhaltas, the Fleadh Nua has been on a steady decline, year on year.

November one was not much better last year either. Lots of paid musicians getting a free weekend with their mates complements of Clare County Council and other sponsors, but more talking than music in most sessions I attended, and no craic whatsoever.

Re: fleadh nua / november festival

It's all because of the Ennis bypass :)
