Well it was a send up of the Eurovision song contest. As such it could have done really well, or the opposite which is what happened. A lot of Europeans have no sense of humour whatsoever. Personally I would have preferred the Father Ted song "My lovely horse" as an entry, I'm sure it would have done better.
Dear Ms Concert
(whoever you are- i'm sorry but I've never noticed you before),
You ought to try to lighten up and be a little less paranoid!
Do you think the "Irish people" have been nationally and culturally slighted by the unfavourable reaction of a few "music" judges to the content of a camp showbiz event and that I am taking it seriously enough to be gloating!!
I thought Dustins song was brilliant. A perfect p*ss take of the Eurovision. It was hilarious listening to people like Dana giving out about it because it didn't take Eurovision seriously. Anyone who takes Eurovision seriously is an idiot, who are the winners in recent years who got most attention?
A Finnish Cartoon Metal Band and an Israeli transsexual called Dana!!!!
It's all one big joke and anyone who thinks otherwise has got serious musical taste issues.
Great to see that 'scrawny necked git' get the chop from Eurovision. What an insult that was to song writers, to have the country represented by a 'poxy puppet'. I'm delighted the joke backfired. Talking of Eurovision... I can take it or leave it, but like it or lump it it's the highest watched Music Festival /Competition in the world. There must be an awful lot of idiots out there. Tina Concert.... I'm sure I came across your sentiments written on a Toilet wall recently. Do us all a favour and keep them there.
The question is: what will we get instead of Dustin? A Spanish Elvis or some singing gang of pirates?
Germany's entry is 'serious' this time. How boring.
The Telegraph appears to include Poland in both lists - those countries dropped, and those going through. Teaches you not to believe everything you see in print, that's for sure.
I suspect that if Ireland had been supplying most of Europe's gas, or something, Dustin might have had a longer Eurovision career.
Ah come on, it was a bit of a laugh but it was also dire ... cringe inducing even. But then most of the Eurovision acts are in a similar vein.
Plain fact of the matter is that little 'ol Ireland here, outcast on the western fringes just does not have the voting pull, the demographics of neighbouring countries to get anywhere anymore in this 'contest'. And there's not much chance of them changing the tele voting thing - too much money to be made by the telco's.
'With one exception their songs all got through to the final and managed to win it seven times...so there!'
But I clearly said 'the past few years' which are a litany of embarrassingly poor results. And how long since there are 'finals' instead of just the one competition? Your 'so there' seems a bit pre-mature here.
First time I've heard the song, brilliant. Certainly a lot better than "Congratulations" "All kinds of everything" and "Puppet on a string to name a few".
As for song writers, my son once claimed he was going to write number one hits for a living. He reckoned you could write about six in a half hour, but worried if he would be bored the rest of the week.
Bliss, you should have your son read "One Hit Wonderland" by Tony Hawks (same guy that wrote "Round Ireland WIth a Fridge"). He took at bet that he couldn't write a Top 10 Hit within 2 years. Very entertaining look at song writing.
"The choice of a children’s puppet as Ireland’s representative at the competition raised a few eyebrows earlier this year, with some seeing it as an insult to the Irish music tradition."
And previous Irish Eurovision entries did the tradition justice??
I see a trend... countries that in the past took eurovision (almost) seriously are now competing to gain "nul points" and the honour of being the first eliminated. Ireland is leading the alternative eurovision, last in 2007, eliminated in 2008... we're on a roll!
And then UK came last !
Nice to have Terry Wogan batting for us, even if he does come from ? Limerick ? or was it Cork ?
I think we should withdraw out of protest, it has all become so political. Errrrr....when was it ever about music ?
And what about Franco buying votes and denying Cliff his win ?
( Mind you, though, I'd deny Cliff his win ).
Pete, if someone didn't come last you wouldn't have anyone coming first - it would just be someone doing his own thing solo.
Or am I splitting semantic hairs?

Yes, how insensitive at a time of great national sadness.
Romantic Ireland is dead and gone; it's with Dustin in the grave

Please, follow Dustin's advice:

Maybe we should try a few strippers next year!! At least that way, we would get through the semi finals.

Re: Irish Glove Puppet voted off Eurovision!
Dire it definitely was. But the thought that Dana might return to politics and give him a position as Arts Minister is altogether worse.

I have looked at some acts from last year and I now understand why a sock turkey could be considered a serious contender. eg:

The Piranha Brothers had something to do with a hedgehog called Dinsdale.
Don't recall if he did vocals though?
