Re: which is the better type of piano accordian

Its all a matter of taste and what sound you like. Both makes have stood the test of time on the scene. Its rare in England to see a Paulo P/A although there are loads of button Paulo's around mostly B/C. The one a lot of people are shouting about is the Saltarelle Clifton for Irish. I did have one for a while and whilst the right hand was stunning beyond belief ( my opinion only guys!!) the left hand was hard work and outplayed the right, so in the end I traded it in for a Pigini P36 which is tuned really dry, good balance L/R. It all depends what sound you are after. I have a small Dino P/A ( 72 bass but in a 48bass size box). Now its tuned really dry its great and really punchy for sessions where despite its tiny size, it really sounds well. If you have a good music shop near you could you just go and sit for an hour and play different ones? Have I answered your question? Probably not! Keep us posted on what you go for. Phil.

There are those who say there is only one good type of pa......while not wishing to be abusive, unless you have other sorts of music you need that instrument for, why not a button accordion, to give you that extra drive ?
To my mind an accordion is overloud and domiineering in a session, and requires a great deal of skill to be played in the appropriate and rhythmic style.

Re: which is the better type of piano accordian

go over to the dark side - have a look at the half sized Roland v2.
pros - Really light, all sorts of reed-tunings in one accordion, really good bass. Price!!
cons - you need an amp.

took mine to various seshs and people were a bit suspicious. By the end of the evening, they all wanted a go on it.

Re: which is the better type of piano accordian

I know devotees could convincingly argue against this... but anyway...

If you are going to turn up to a session with an electronic accordion, why not just bring a piano keyboard (with appropriate synth controls to get that authentic sound) on a stand?

Sure, some great musicians play these things - Phil Cunningham etc, but seriously, why bother? They aren't even real instruments really. They make no sound on their own. Why bother having bellows?.. why not have a little foot thing to stomp on to get the pulse? In the end they are plastic and wires. When the lights go out, I'll still be making music... or in a tent at a festival, or anywhere [as long as it's not raining ;-)].

I saw the Elders in Chicago....they used synthesized accordion.

But they are to ITM what bling is to the Hope diamond.

Forgot

There is the Gola piano accordion. Runs between $28,000 and $35,000 US

If cost had anything to do with quality, this must be a gift from on-high!
