The amplyfier for the DADGAD guitar - inches, brands...?
Hi!
I’m choosing among acoustic guitar amplifier – not very big and expensive.
I use Yamaha guitar tuned to DADGAD with thick strings and magnetic pickup.
Mostly use it for ITM but also for other styles.
I have tried Fender Junior – in principle it was not bad. I like simple Marshal AS50D for violin but have not tried it with the guitar yet.
There is an opinion that it’s hard to get good bottom with 10 or 8 inches and better to use 12.
I can’t find any acoustic combo with Celestion speakers. Do you know any?
What do you think about 10 inches problem?
What experience do you have?

Funnily you can get a spring reverb for acoustic instruments. Guitar and fiddle amongst them. The Recitalbox. Not only that, but the de-damping effect it creates will open up your instrument offering amazing results. Highly recommended.

I use a Marshall AS50R (the older model) in small solo or duo situations and can't be more pleased with the output. It carries well enough for small pubs, theaters, as well as outside situations. Easily transported as well.
I couple this with a L. R. Baggs ribbon transducer under the bridge. There are two issues with this ribbon transducer; the first is that I strongly suggest you get a L. R. Baggs DI box as others don't seem to work well or at all with it and the second is that you really need to mix out the mids to get the sound right. Some sound people argue this but then when they do it they agree, at least thus far that's been the case.
I've just taken to using a Berringer 15 watt amplifier as a monitor. Seems to work well, was only $60.00, and it's small.

I use a Crate acoustic but I think you still can't beat a microphone for getting the actual sound of the instrument. I played a Martin with the Fishman Aura electronics through a Fender Acoustic amp that was close to the sound of a guitar, but still not the same. Someone makes a microphone that attaches to the guitar so you don't need to bother with a stand.
Re: The amplyfier for the DADGAD guitar - inches, brands...?
Greetings Mark,
I agree about using a good microphone to amplify the guitar but truth be told I move around too much to use one. The level fluctuates too much. I really like the Baggs setup with the Marshall. I play a Martin D-35 and the sound out of the amp is the closest I've found to the guitar itself. I've used the same set up with a Crate 60 watt and was equally as pleased with the sound. If I needed to buy another amp it would be either a Marshall or Crate.
All that said I much prefer to play acoustically however that is not prudent in all circumstances.

Re: The amplyfier for the DADGAD guitar - inches, brands...?
Ok thanks. I can't rely on microphones in any situation
And I don't fight for the most "natural" sound - of course it will be different with a combo.
Thank you all - I'll go and try Crate and that Marshals.
Actually - which kind of Reverb is in Marshall 50R (not 50D)?
