Re: Petition in support of Dissolved Clontarf Branch
Seems very unfair, but I'm a bit reluctant to sign any petition without knowing the full story. Mick O'Connor and his family, and Dinny O'Brien and his family were all members. I remember about 20 of them coming over twice to Edinburgh Folk Festivals in the 1980s. It would certainly be a tragedy if they were forced to close, especially under the apparent circumstances. Comhaltas would have to work damn hard to persuade me that this is in any way justified.
Re: Petition in support of Dissolved Clontarf Branch
I saw on the news the other night that Comhaltas headquarters are refusing absolutely to countenance arbitration saying it can be dealt with through their bunreacht??? Scary
Re: Petition in support of Dissolved Clontarf Branch
Wow. I had a slight passing knowledge of the CLASAC situation, but I just spent 3 hours reading that entire mudcat thread. What a painful situation all around!
Re: Petition in support of Dissolved Clontarf Branch
The petition doesn't ask anyone to take a side in the dispute. The premise of the petition is that dissolution is the wrong way to deal with a dispute. The correct way to resolve such disputes is by dialogue or failing that, mediation/arbitration. The petition calls for arbitration to resolve the dispute and for the dissolution of the branch to be rescinded.
If you agree with this premise - that the dissolution of the branch was wrong and that arbitration would be a far better option then please sign the petition - even if you don't necessarily agree with the position of the branch on all the issues under dispute.
