One of those embarrassing situations, I'm afraid- the abc is all wrong, and I'm not even sure it's an Irish tune - so I'm at your mercy here with this fragment:-
Are you serious ? Make some effort to get the abc right and maybe we can help. 3 groups of 3 notes, followed by 4 then 5.
Are you talking about a jig, reel, hornpipe or what ? Did you hear it on a recording or in a session? What key is it in ? Are the cs and the f sharp or natural ? There are plenty of people on this site who will help, but we need more than this.
Then sorry I can't help, P-K, but we have identified tunes from less. Do you know if it's a jig, or a reel/hornpipe, or what? I'll play around with the notes tonight and see if anything sounds familiar. Best I can do.
You guys are very kind, cajoling this musical muppet out of his mental laziness. (Yes, c, sorry about the forward slashes- I've now found the bar symbol!)
On reflection, I think there may be an extra note (or possibly a rest) at the beginning of each bar, which would make it more like
Acec| EGBG|Acec|efgedBGB|
with the accent on the second note of the first 3 bars (is it beginning to look like a reel?) (my previous final A may actually be the first note in a repeat of the whole.)
I think that last bar has 8 notes- quavers rather than crochets?)
I'm sorry if this looked like a wind-up- sadly, it isn't- I really am that bad- but hope this makes it a little more intelligible?
At least you are participating in attempts to unravel the mystery melody...
Your description sounds like maybe ~
A | cecE GBGA | cece fged | B2 GB
~ or as you've given it ~
Acec EGBG | Acec efge | dBGB ~
Sorry, either way it isn't ringing any bells, but maybe someone else will make something of the attempts to pull some sense out of the sequence of notes... You could now at least try a search in 'Advanced' for the two possible first bars given here?
cecE GBGA ~ or ~ Acec EGBG
or if Googling for it ~
"cecE GBGA" ~ or ~ "Acec EGBG"
Thanks, Ceol- you have drawn me into the mystery, like good teachers will, and shown me the door marked 'Advanced'...someone then peeped through the spy-hole and decided (correctly) I wasn't

Re: Tune Fragment
I wish I had more to give here, but I don't, so apologies- what you say is fair comment.

Re: Tune Fragment
P-K ~ surely you'll know if it is a jig or a reel, or something altogether other? I'm also not completely sure why the forward slashes?
