I'm searching for the name of a tune--dancers, you may be able to help. It's the "Beginner Reel" on Mike and Merv's "A Collection of Irish Dance Music" (http://www.celticmerchant.com/musicfordance.html) and it's also the first reel on Track 3 of Olive Hurley's Complete Ceili Collection, disc one (http://www.celticmerchant.com/comceilcol.html). If you've ever seen the World Championships video (1994), Trinity Academy won in the Under 13 Choreography to this tune. It's a fairly common tune, so I'm sure it's already on the site--however, I have no idea what it's called! I love this piece, and it's been driving me up the wall trying to find it. Does anyone know its name(s)?
Huh...doesn't sound like either of the Jackie Coleman's I know, wiggle. I've heard this tune from time out of mind, having started off as a dancer, but haven't the slightest what it's called...it doesn't sound like the Speed the Plough I know, either.
The tune is Off in the Morning, which also goes by the name Spped the Plough, but it's a different tune than the Speed the Plough in Dmaj that shows up at many sessions (at least here in the States).
Greenwiggle, the Dmaj Speed the Plough in the tunes here is similar too but also significantly different than Jackie Coleman's--they are two distinct tunes. And Off in the Morning/Speed the Plough is yet another distinct tune. Plus Trevor's setting of another Speed the Plough, and that doesn't even get us into the American old-timey or Texas swing tunes by the same name. Clear as mud, eh?

Re: Title search - please help!
Speed the Plough also called Off in the Morning-but the version on this site is actually Jackie Coleman's under the incorrect name.

A transcription from Henrik Norbeck is on the woodenflute tune database (http://tunedb.woodenflute.com/tunedb/tune_search_logic.html), but a closer setting to what's on those ceili cds might go as follies:
If we can all agree on what to call it (Off In the Morning?), I'll post it in the tune archives here.

Re: Title search - please help!
Well, never mind. I posted it in the tunes as Off in the Morning, with a few minor tweaks to the above abcs. Hope this helps, whisper.

Re: Title search - please help!
I think Greenwiggle was mixing up Jackie Coleman's and Tom Billy's, which is another name for Speed The Plough in D.

- which is what Will just said, so I obviously need to go back to bed and get more sleep.
