This must be the biggest festival weekend in Ireland, with festivals in Ardara, Carna, Dungarvan, Gurteen, Kinvara, Kilcar, Louisburgh, Mohill and I'm sure other places. (Why do they all have to happen this weekend?!!)
So if you're in Ireland at the moment which festival are you going to?
http://www.galwaysessions.com/ is the only big summer festival in Galway I know of, it's also one of the few trad festivals in Ireland in June. Although it's not much different to any other weekend, all the sessions are pretty much the same as usual, there are a few gigs in addition.
To be honest it doesn't really matter what weekend you come to Galway, there's always good sessions and loads of good musicians.
If yer in NYC Saturday night and are feeling a bit adventurous may I suggest checkin out a new group called Jameson's Revenge. Sure, it's a bit of shameless self-promotion but hey, we hate having all this fun by ourselves. We'll be rippin the tunes at a great venue called Ulysses down by The World Trade Center starting around 11pm or so.
on train from Dublin to Dundalk at the mo on way to meet up with Donal O'Connor for a wee road trip to Kinvara's Fleadh na gCuach - Cuckoo Fleadh. Off work til Wednesday - haven't had the fiddle out for a while - can't wait for that 1st cider and ice (it is officially summer now!)
Making the most of having a festival only 2 miles up the road - The Cuckoo Fleadh! Here's hoping it won't rain (what am I on about - it's a bank holiday weekend after all!)
I'll be playing Mad tunes at a Napa Valley winery Spring celebration/benefit. It's a mellow gig in a beautiful setting and we get paid with fine wine. Delicious wine! We played the same gig last year for the same "pay"--believe me, I'll be more than glad to replenish my stock
