For all you Sligo fans out there, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings presents Tony DeMarco at the peak of his creative prowess.
The Sligo Indians is a long-awaited solo debut from one of America's finest folk fiddlers. New Yorker Tony DeMarco is an expert of the intricate ornamentation, swinging rhythm, and adventurous melodic improvisation that mark the famed County Sligo fiddle style. Mentored by the late Sligo master fiddler Paddy Reynolds, Tony has for decades been a pillar of the Irish session scene in New York City.
We'll have a CD release party followed by a session.... mark calendars if nearby... at IAANJ in NJ, Dec. 6th. Long way off but time flies... it will be in the events session closer to the date.
Yo, foghettabout it........there's a bunch of good Irish music comin' out of the NY/NJ area. .....great Italian food too.
Congrats to Tony on his cd.........great stuff
I was lucky enough to meet Tony a couple of years ago, when this CD project was "cooking". It's great to see it complete and released - the man is pretty special!
great player Tony, we played together in NYC last Jan. He's a Trader down in the finance district - but don't let his tatoos and badda bing badda boom fool you - he has the fingers of an angel.
With the likes of Tony DeMarco and Brian Conway around, the great tradition of NY based sligo fiddle that runs from Coleman and Morrison, through McGann and Reynolds continues to flourish.
I received my first (and only) lesson in Sligo style fiddle
from Tony thirty five yrs ago. the afternoon before his Sat.
night gig at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, Pa, USA.
with the Flying Cloud.
He is a cool, kind and talented man and a few of the toons
he demonstrated at that time are on this CD (how 'bout dat).
His bandmate on guitar was Caesar Pacifice (sp.??),
whose father did the voiceovers for Humphrey Bogart in
the Italian market versions (just a little trivia).
For those around New York, there will be another CD release party/concert at Paddy Reilly's at 29th and 2nd in Manhattan on the night of Thursday, June 5.
Those of you around Pennsylvania, Tony will be giving a group workshop, signing CD's and joining our session at Donegal Square in Bethlehem, PA. 6 - 9 PM

Re: Solo Debut from Tony DeMarco (fiddle)
Nothing wrong with Michael Doucet either, two fiddlers, and albums at really reasonable prices ~ $9.99 (approx. 5 quid)
For those of you on these isles you could order both of these and with the postage still be under the price of being hassled by customs.

Sounds like a 1940s welterweight.
His name, not his playing.

Tony's related to the Boxer Jack Dempsey, I think on his mother's side.
