Re: Dance Master Joe O'Donovan RIP

A sad loss . I remember him teaching the great secret of dancing back in the 80's in a workshop in Camden
'Its not the speed its the timing that counts' would that others could hear that wisdom now .

Re: Dance Master Joe O'Donovan RIP

Damn... I was in the process of writing them... Dear Joe, a lovely man, and his family all sweet people too. It has been too long. I regret neglected correspondence... I have a card and letter that's been sitting neglected for a long time... One more step Joe, one more story...

Re: Dance Master Joe O'Donovan RIP

A sad loss, I was very fortunate recently to meet him and his family. Wonderful people and so very full of life.

God rest him.

Re: Dance Master Joe O'Donovan RIP

Joe used to teach the set-dance class at Miltown for years. He and his wife were great teachers and wonderful people.

Very sad.

Joe was the first 'official' teacher of the set dance classes at Willie Clancy Week, Miltown...

Re: Dance Master Joe O'Donovan RIP

His American legacy won't be forgotten either as he and Siobhan made five trips over after he retired as he was an enormous influence in sparking the set dancing revival in the U.S. travelling as far west as the Mississippi River and predominantly up and down the East Coast.
Thankfully I saw him on Sunday last down in the Cork Hospital and was able to say goodbye to a man who taught me much more than set dancing and for which I had the utmost respect.
God be good to him.
