That's a killer right hand.. (and kind of a creepy woman in a black dress apparition at the end)

Re: Tenor Banjo Performance

he sounds nothing like gerry o'connor. He sounds more like Harry Reser, jazz banjo maestro from the 20's.

lots of 78s put up as mp3's to listen to. Interesting because the period he recorded in ties in very close to the 'Golden Age' of ITM recorded in America (Coleman, Morrison, etc.) Think if you listen to his playing you can hear elements that were emulated by the Irish banjo players of the age, like Mike Flanaghan, who were developing Irish style of banjo from scratch. Also clip of Reser on youtube

He was the mac daddy of his age, and poster boy for paramount banjos. Funny enough, the clip at the start of this discussion shows a guy playing a clifford essex paragon (banjo played by Barney McKenna, Mick O'Connor, John Carty and Gerry O'Connor on occassion - regarded by many as the best banjo for ITM) which was actually modelled on the paramount banjos made by Lange and played by Reser. (Arch top tone ring etc.)
