Jim Murray's guitar?

Jim Murray's guitar?

Does anyone know what kind of guitar Jim Murray plays?

I was listening to the "Tunes" cd with Shannon, Gavin & McGoldrick and just love the tone that Murray is getting out of his guitar. I'd swear he's using nylon strings??

It seems that softer tone is showing up more in recordings (as opposed to the brighter steel string sound).

Re: Jim Murray's guitar?

its a takamine nylon strung guitar with high tension strings, good micd up, wouldn't really hear it in a session though. Id go for an admira if you were thinking of buying one, better guitar..

Re: Jim Murray's guitar?

I heard Murray play with the same group - Donnelley instead of
Gavin - and he was stunning. Standing up there with those
heavy-hitters, he could easily lead tunes and switch back and
forth from playing the tune to doing really creative backing. Had
nothing at all to do with what type of strings or guitar though :)

Re: Jim Murray's guitar?

From seeing him live with the band, I think he switches between standard and DADGAD quite frequently too

Re: Jim Murray's guitar?

He certainly used to play in Double Dropped D (DADGBD) a couple of years ago. Not sure if he has changed.
