He seems a little off on some of the tab? Tuning?? The tune does closely resemble "John Barlycorn (must die)." I'm sure there's plenty of chord/tab/notation for that tune available on the web...
Yup. I did find that. That's the melody. I also found some ABC also of the melody. I'm still having a hard time working out harmonies on my own.
But thanks a million anyway. It's a tough song to find backing tab for. It's not as popular as one might think. I love the song though.
This tune might sound nice backed by guitar in DADGAD tuning. All the chords would be dead simple, too.
Bruce Molsky is great. I've heard that he went to some lengths with his luthier to get the timbre of his fiddle to compliment his voice. Man that voice, nice burr in it.
Shame they felt the need to have 29 instruments playing along on that clip. Just listening to Bruce Molsky singing it solo, accompanying himself on the fiddle, would send chills down your spine.
Btw, if you actually watch the clip, you can see what chords the geetar player is playing. He throws a C in there between the D and the G.
Daithi Sproule sang an Irish version of this song on the first Trian recording, where they called it "My Dearest Dear". So you've obviously found the right forum.
good bluegrass & oldtime forum?
good bluegrass & oldtime forum?
Anyone know of one that's fairly active? The searches I did came up with a few forums but they're no where near as busy as the mustard board.

I found this on mudcat.org:
http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=37520
Subject: The Blackest Crow w/chord chart
3/4
| D | D | G | G | | G | G | Em | Em | | D | D | G | G | | G | G | Em | Em |
| G | G | G | G | | Em | D | Em | Em | | D | D | G | G | | G | G | Em | Em |
THE BLACKEST CROW
As time got near my dearest dear when you and I must part
How little you know of the grief and woe in my poor aching heart
Tis but I'd suffer for your sake believe me dear it's true
I wish that you were staying here or I was going with you.
I wish my breast were made of glass wherein you might behold
Upon my heart your name lies wrote in letters made of gold
In letters made of gold my love believe me when I say
You are the one that I will adore until my dying day.
The blackest crow that ever flew would surely turn to white
If ever I prove false to you bright day will turn to night
Bright day will turn to night my love the elements will mourn
If ever I prove false to you the seas will rage and burn.

Holy smokes that's simple!
Gary, thank you again.
By the way, there's a new PA system at Ruth's that's great. But so far nothing to pad those concrete walls. It's still a loud cave. lol
