That was much more hilarious than annoying (yeah, I actually listened to the whole thing). Then again, I do like bagpipes, pipe organs, banjos, and harp glissandos, accordions, harmonicas and a whole bunch of the other stuff they used...
It's dead bits of music that was, in a former life, real music - bagpipe, bossa nova, opera, even kiddies' choirs etc. - give or take Wal-Mart. It made me think of swimming through sewage in the sea - not something I can recall having done, or wish to do, I would add. Maybe the connection between the bits of that music and the stuff in the sea lies in their being flotsam, baleful residues of digestive processes, and being not quite solid and difficult and slippery to grasp...I'll leave this subject!
That is possibly the most hilarious thing that I have ever listened to (and yes, I too listened to the entire 21 minutes) That is not to say that I would listen to it again, I certainly won't; but there is something deeply funny (if disturbing) about that monstrosity.

It reminded me a bit of something in the Dunkirk scene of the film "Atonement", where the camera pans over a bunch of Tommies trenchantly singing the hymn "Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind" against some quite unrelated doomy shifting chord.
I listened to over half of the total. To be honest I found it interesting to say the least. Put that through the speakers in the local supermarket or shopping centre and nobody would even notice. The composers could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by just playing 'Galway Girl'
It reminds me of when the US forces lay siege to someplace or want to break down a prisoner's will to resist, blast them with heavy metal rock for hours. Was it Noriega in Panama or someone like that, surrendered after days of Van Halen, Deep Purple and David Bowie. I always thought that I could easily endure that, even enjoy it, after being at Captain Beefheart gigs in my youth. But this ?
Please, please, I surrender, confess, anything you want, just let it stop...
They blasted Noriega with AC/DC. Wolfbird, which Beefheart gigs did you see? Colston Hall,Bickershaw? The Magic Band were called the Magic Band a reason
Yes,I'm a veteran of Bickershaw.Do you remember the circus acts between the bands? Ray Davies,"tired and emotional" pushing a Hammond organ off the stage?Black microdots? The Grateful Dead tuning up for an hour till it dawned on us that they'd started playing. The Captain was amazing.Joe Strummer was there and always said that Beefheart's set was the best rock concert he'd ever seen.I think that the 1970 to 1972 Magic Band were the best rock group who ever trod the boards.
Something like that, dafydd were they black microdots ? between two layers of sellotape ? I remember blue....some girl laying beside me explaining how she could see Jesus in the clouds, and Beefheart like Beelzebub, groaning and roaring and howling...yeah, absolutely amazing experience
I remember I was playing guitar and some freaks from the Children of God bus were telling me to stop and leave my wife and come away with them, and my mate arguing with them telling I didn't need their religion because I was putting heart and soul into the music...hee, hee, it was a wild time I was living near Colwyn Bay then, in an ancient caravan up in the mountain...I've played in Belgium and Holland too, dafydd, around 1966 - 69, possibly we met somewhere along the way...

Wow! Did Peter Schickele and Spike Jones have a hand in this?
I like the term "banjo ferocity". I think I'll keep it.

Actually, I kind of like it. I wonder what that means about me.

Re: The Most Unwanted Music
I agree - there is some undefineable masochistic likeability about it. It's so bad that it's good....so long a s you don't take it too seriously.

I think I know where they went wrong. They were on the right track with the Highland pipes, but there are no bodhrans.
