Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Does it really need guitar accompaniment?

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Hey fishmonger, that looks like a banjo / mandolin tab to me.
Nice site though.

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Are you looking for a notated guitar accompaniment or a chord chart? Also what key, D or G?. Slim.

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Here's the chords for the key of D (good choices I think) and dots in PDF format:

http://www.mediarare.com/temp/hectorthehero.pdf

Here's the abc of the above if that works better for you:

X:1
T:Hector the Hero
N:Rhythm: Waltz
Q:1/4=150
M:3/4
L:1/8
K:D
D2 E2 |:"D"F3 E D2 |"G"B4 AF |"D"A4-A B|A4 DE |"Bm"F4 ED |"G"B4 AF |"Em"E4-E F|"A"E4 FA |"Bm"F3 E D2 |"G"B4 AF |"D"A4 D2 |"G"d4 B2 |"D"A4 DF |"A"E4 D2 |"D"D6- |D2 :|"D"F2 A2 |"G"B4 GB |d4 cB |"D"A4-A B|

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

I don't think of Hector the Hero as a waltz. When guitar players force it into a waltz, it's ruined, it's more a lament.

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Yeah, but the way I ruin it sounds really nice ;-)

So by "lament" are you hearing a 6/4 rhythm??

Rolling like that would be nice.

I was mainly posting a chord chart, not a rhythmic interpretation written in stone.

How about posting your interpretation, Anew.

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

My favourite version is by Tommy Peoples on The Quiet Glen. It's just about my favourite CD as it happens.

Would what work? I don't know if I'm getting what you're after. You want guitars chords?...

Did you have a look at the PDF file I posted? You want a .gif perhaps? Here you go:

In the "Tunes" DB here on the mustard board there's a version in the "comments" section (in abc with guitar chords and some good commentary on the Hector the man--posted by glauber) that's very similar to the one I posted:

Re: guitar music for hector the hero

Of course guitar would work instead of piano. And you don't have to force an air into fixed time to accompany with a guitar, although it takes practice, and affinity between the melody player and accompanist. Get someone to record the melody, or better a patient person to play it with you. Start with the basic root chord, and where it doesn't fit, try the four chord and five chord. Then try the relative minors, especially relative minors for the root chord and the four chord. Keep tinkering until you have a suitable chord for each part of the melody, and some alternatives here and there for repeats of the melody. Try different picking and strumming patterns until you arrive on a nice one (or nice ones, it is boring to do everything the same every time). You can figure this out yourself, and every time you figure a tune out, it gets easier to figure out the next one. And someday, you will be able to listen once through, play along with a tune at a session, and ask what the name of it was after it is done, to the amazement of the unenlightened, who don't understand how someone can pick up a tune by ear.
