Barfly for Mac question

Barfly for Mac question

I have a Mac OS X version 10.4.11.

I've been trying to get Barfly to put chord recommendations into tunes and it's worked a couple of times by going to EDIT - - VIEWER PREFERENCES and checking "Place guitar chords below staff." However, it only works some of the time. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong here?

Re: Barfly for Mac question

Barfly doesn't come up with chord recommendations on its own. I think that preference is to decide where to put the chords that are encoded into the ABC file (either above or below the staff).

Chord suggestions can be notated in ABC by putting them in quotes:

D|"G"~G3 GAB|, etc. If you leave that preference unchecked, it puts them above the staff. That preference can also be overridden by putting one of these characters - ^ - in front of the chord.

So D|"^G"~G3 GAB|, etc, still puts them above the staff, even if the preference is set to below.

So my guess is that when it "worked a couple of times", it was because chords were notated in the ABC file...

Thanks Reverend, that makes sense.

Re: Barfly for Mac question

I never managed to do nothing on that stuff. Don't understand how to write or play the tunes. No toolbar. Don't understand icons. I'm on a G4 powerbook and that freeware is a complete mystery for me. Maybe it's because I don't have any numeric keyboard on my machine, for things like | or [ ... so I gave up.
:-(
