Re: two string tunes

Try the Kerry Jig (No. 7 on http://comhaltas.ie/shop/detail/foinn_seisiun_cd_volume_2/) which has a great melody as well as using all four strings on fiddle or banjo.

Re: two string tunes

Sorry Dubchieftan - my mistake and this is a great example of reading what you want to, as I have this thing about using all strings (reels like the Dawn, Farewell to Ireland and jigs such as the 4 part Gold Ring, etc.). Anyhow the jig "Leg of the Duck" (the middle one at http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/mug_of_brown_ale/) is one which meets your criteria. Also if you use the little finger for the high "e", then the Britches Full of Stitches polka is another.

Re: two string tunes

Not the way I play it Ramiro - must be a different setting!

Re: two string tunes

Ah, I see, you probably play it in G. I use to play it in A.

Re: two string tunes

That explains it as I'd normally play it in G. Also if you played it in D you'd get away with 2 strings.

Re: two string tunes

Auntie Mary had a Canary (i.e., Chase me Charlie, Cock o' the North) is a great slide on two strings and well worth crosstuning for as well. Much the same for the Eagle's Whistle, depending on your setting.

Re: two string tunes

The Bohola Jig is a great little tune on two strings. Very easy to learn.

Re: two string tunes

:)
thanks for the suggestions!!
i think playing tunes on two strings helps me focus on the rhythm a bit more.

plus my mandolin is sh*t and takes ages to tune.
