Bodatcha, I'm curious why you like Tantoonie's style. There's no denying his talent, but his heavy use of pull-off's is unlike any trad player I have ever heard. His style is quite different than most trad players wouldn't you agree? The Mick O'Connor clips and the Angelina Carberry clips available on youtube are much more in line with how my ears interpret tasteful Irish banjo playing. I wish there were a few good clips of Kevin Griffin available on youtube - he's fantastic.
tantoonie0 would be the first to admit he doesn't have a trad "Irish" style. I really like Rickupinoft for the amateur clips. I've posted his link here. http://www.youtube.com/user/Rickupinoft
I found the series of Mick O'connor to be great, inspiring and great to play along to. For me, he's got a style thats relaxed, not over ornamented, and seems to put the music first. However, they've all been removed.... great shame. His duets with Bob 'n' along were great. Plenty of others with differing styles, but none that particularly stand out.
yep Jusa, I agree tantoonie does not play in the conventional style - I just like the roll of his music - I guess his ornamentation makes the tenor banjo sound a bit more like a five string. I like Angelina's and Mick O'Connor's playing too. Theres some good stuff from Eamonn Coyne on youtube too.
Its interesting to hear different styles on an instrument that is sometimes criticised for being limited.

Saw one clip of Brona Graham on the Comhaltas site, it was sensational:

Re: Banjo
They must have removed Mick O'Connor pretty recently - shame.
Dan Beimborn's mandolin and tenor guitar clips are worth a look too.
I think it's a bit early in the history of trad Irish banjo playing to be deciding what's correct trad and what's not.

Re: Banjo
go to comhaltas and search 'banjo' in the videos - there's a nice list.
