This is played on Christy Moore's "The Iron Behind The Velvet" and on the sleeve is down as a no name that Andy Irvine had in his head from he knew not where. I've played it for years simply calling it Andy Irvine's, but perhaps someone actually has a name for it. Ceolachan, if this is another one I've asked before please be gentle...middle age you know!

Re: Anyone know this polka?

Only just learned it! Sometimes called the Road to Invernesse or Father somebody's Quick-Step; some kind of old marching tune occasionally seen in C, in the Goodman collections. Check the Fiddler's Companion files for the whole markup.

Re: Anyone know this polka?

I learned it as "The Banks of Inverness," from a 1980s recording by American contra dance musician Laurie Andres. Norbeck also indexes it by that title. Its on this site in A: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/5119

Re: Anyone know this polka?

It's called
"The Siege of Ennis" in Ireland.
" Andy Irvine's Polka" in Scotland,
"Salmon Tails up in the water" in England.

Re: Anyone know this polka?

Nah, Salmon Tails is a different tune. Similar, but different.
