Dixon Low D Flute

Dixon Low D Flute

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who gave me advise on chosing an instrument. I ordered and received a clarke whistle, but found that I missed the tone and feel of a flute. I was able to find a used Dixon 3 piece that fit my $200 budget, and I am very pleased with it. I splurged on a few of the reccomended music books, and have been pouring through them. I also located a couple of sessions that are not too far from where I live, and I plan to go and listen to see if I can pick up some pointers on style. Special thanks to rob_handel who suggested I contact Doc Jones, he was a wonderful person to work with!

Also, thanks to flierdermaus for your flutist perspective, I have a feeling I will be checking back here quite often with questions about technique ... (while I am used to playing open hole, I am having some challenges getting used to the keyless format.)

Thanks again, this is a great site!

Re: Dixon Low D Flute

No problem ahren, I'm glad to have helped. Listening to the music is the best way to pick up on the little nuances that make up the style. If you can't get out to a session listen on the web. YouTube and other such sites are great resources for this purpose. Here's another great link to some older flute recordings:

Good luck with your new flute!!
