Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Against my better judgment I will be visiting the good old US of A arriving on 8th April.

I will be landing at Newark as I am told they are best for crowd control.

My problem is this. With the baseball teams at spring training Shea Stadium is ruled out for an appearance by my good self. So where do I play? Do I bring ready signed photographs to hand out, or sign autographs on the way round, not wanting to appear to be a big shot. What TV shows should I honour with a guest appearance?

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

What kind of music do you play?

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

The Ed Sullivan Show, or maybe Merv Griffith?
oh yeah, they're dead...
I'd say the morning shows, cuz I can't stay up long enough for late-night.
Too bad I can't come to greet you from Wyoming, but last I checked the airfare is just too much. Maybe you could come here, do an extended tour! I won't mind if you don a cowboy hat and boots....

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

We have a large staging area in Phoenix suitable for handling large throngs of swooning admirers for a visiting dignitary such as yerself. However, if you are unable to make it to the Western side of the colonies, a friend of mine hosts a session on Tuesday nights in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. The Ballybunion - ask for Sheila.

Enjoy your visit!

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Radio City Music Hall is a nice venue, it might be a bit small for your following, but I think you would be brill performing with the Rockettes.

Try to visit a high class salon prior to concert and tv appearance. Grab an electric razor and shave your head. Tears are a nice touch too. This way, you’ve got instant attention and sell more tickets and photos. The paparazzi will just love you!

Try to hit the big late night shows, yanno, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Dave Letterman, Jimmy Limmel Live. Forget Matt Damon, try to arrange a video shoot with Sarah Silverman and show Jimmy Kimmel who her daddy really is.

No, don’t sign anything. Yeah sure it’s nice, but you don’t need to. And here, you sell the photos and anything else people want signed. You charge for autographs boyo.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Enjoy your favorable exchange rate! The dollar is practically a peso compared to the Pound or Euro right now.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Come to Florida, here's where all the ball players are!

Actually, by the time you get here, BB, the boyos will be back at it at Shea, Spring Training will be over by then.

Next year, I advise a trip to lovely, sunny Florida in March, so you can take in some Spring Training games and have many a merry session with us folks down here. ;-)

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

They would not let him play for the President. They'd do a security check and the next flight for Bliss would be Guantanamo by way of Cairo!

Just kidding.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Well you just haven't played a venue until you've played in the Giants new ballpark. Just ask Culann's Hounds about that.

LMAO

Gotta love the Hounds!

Sesame Street, with my hero "Animal". Taught me all I know.

That bit about the security check is close to the mark. I have played for President Castro.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

I will be Based in Hicksville, sorry Westville, New Jersey. Probably stay in New York and Washington for a few nights, visit Phillie, the Amish community, Princeton (always fancied teaching there, as does my old mucker Muldoon) and then where and when ever the mood takes. I think I might be doing something at the Toronto Skydrome.

Australia was a wind up, let's face it, Oz wouldn't be big enough for me. Might be ok for fading stars like Billy Connolly, but moi.........

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

I will be in contact with my local Rhode Island state legislator to see if there can be an official proclamation to declare
"Bodhran Island" as the temporary name for the state during your visit. We're not far from New Jersey and without question we could use another bodhran so please make the trip to pick up the plaque to hang on your wall.

I believe it's the "Roger's Dome" ever since Roger's bought it over. I guess it gives Toronto another thing to be proud of.

Mona's, Alphabet City, NYC every Monday night. Tony de Marco plays there.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

I can't wait to hear about some of the touristy-cr@p you bring back as souvenirs. Plastic Statue of Liberty, Zoo York T-shirt, Yankees Baseball cap, etc. It will put the world in balance for all the American tourists who came to Antrim and asked about the shillelaghs and bodhran's with the Guinness logos. ;-)

BB, I'll take you to a Mets game if you like. They have a good team again this year, which doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it's good fun anyway.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

I am overwhelmed with your kindness, all of you, I love you all (I have been practicing American speak). How about my original idea from a few years ago of replacing the torch in the Statue of Liberty with a bodhran in my honour?

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

And thank you to Brown Creeper for an amazing impersonation of a New Zealander on a great night out. Oops, you are from New Zealand.

I believe clothes, gasoline, motor cars and musical instruments are amazingly cheap in the good old US of A. I might invest in some of those as well as a plastic Statue of Liberty, Mets hat, 49ers football jersey, copy of the Gettysberg address, and a great big Cuban, sorry, USA flag.

And manage to give Tiger a thrashing at golf while I am there.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

BB - upon your return from the states, I hope you will blog extensively here about your adventures; the good the bad and the ugly, the stereotypes confirmed and the stereotypes overturned. Just please remember to have pity on those poor folks who, upon hearing your accent, feel compelled to tell you their entire family tree in order to confirm and validate their "Irishness" with you. They're just trying to make a connection to something they wish they understood better - their place in this world.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Hey, Bliss, too bad you can't make it to the Left Coast, the timing would be perfect -- no fires, earthquakes or flooding anticipated. Although that could change...

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Was just in NYC last week. Went to two pubs although there was no music at the time I was there. A real traditional Irish pub is O'Flaherty's on West 46th near the theatre district. It's been there for years. Don't know about the music scene there though. Just a nice pub.

Took my son to the Empire State Building. When we were in the lobby there was a guy in a gorilla suit making his way up the escalator.

There was music at The Playright on 8th Ave also in the mid-40s. And, if your bodhran needs some work while there, check out Sam Ash on West 48th.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

Any sleezy jazz clubs with soul plucking saxaphone? That seems more USA to me.

Or is that just the tourist in me?

Also I usually have a rule, when abroad avoid the Irish. Otherwise why go abroad?

I am actually looking forward to it now. Mind you, her indoors is going as well.

Re: Bliss coming to America!!!!!

The Mets home opener is April 8th. So, catching a game isn't impossible. The Yankees opening is in New York on April 2. They have a short homestand and then are away coming back on April 16. If you go up to Boston, the Red Sox are at home from the 8th through the weekend with the weekend being Red Sox vs. Yankees. Classic, but probably very expensive.

Woody Allen and his jazz band are at The Carlyle on East 76th every Monday. New Orleans style jazz and a neurotic actor/director to boot.

Also, one of the best cabaret bars is the Oak Room at the Algonquin on 44th Street. Don't know who's appear now -- nothing on the web site.

And then there's Broadway. At the Marriott is the 1/2 price TKTS booth.
