I'm looking for the dots-ABC-mp3 whatever I can find for this song. The lyrics were posted on another thread. But the music I haven't been able to find. From what I did find it's American civil war era and has different versus depending on which side the Irish soldier was fighting for.
???????
Look at the bottom of the page I've linked to below.
"The melody is actually, not surprisingly, an older Irish tune called "Sean Buioe," which from Irish translates to "Yellow John," and can also be found in O'Neill's. This is song is another of the many examples of how songs changed hands during the Civil War, with each side writing its own lyric."
Hey Fishmonger, that was me. I sing Pat Murphy of Meagher's Brigade to this tune, or a variation of this tune. I got it from David Kincaid's recordings.
I've been told that it's not quite Sean Bui, but it's close.
Thankfully, my buddy who plays whistle learned it by ear from me singing it.

One search - http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/SPRI_SRU.htm.
Who or what's 'Sean Buioe'? Doesn't make any sense.

Re: Sean Buioe - Sprig of shillelagh
Well, 'Sean Buioe's' a hell of a misprint of the actual translation of 'yellow John'!

OK, thanks... maybe I'll get creative and just make something up? Or not, I dunno. Great lyrics though.

Re: Sean Buioe - Sprig of shillelagh
Go for it! It's a pretty easy tune, doesn't Kincaid have a clip on his website?
If you want, I'll holler it into my Mac and email you an MP3.
Actually, yeah, I'll do that, throw it up on You Tube or something.
