St. Patrick's Day in SF Bay area

St. Patrick's Day in SF Bay area

Last year a group of friends and I hit up a few places in the south bay area and it was pretty lame. Every bar managed to purge itself of all forms of Irish music and instead resort to playing techno dance music. Now I realize that St Patrick's day is about as commercialized as it can get, but surely there must be some better options around here. Anyone know of any good events/sessions happening in the south bay area?

Which places did you try last year? You might try the usual suspects and just call them and find out what they're up to (O'Flaherty's, C B Hannigans in Los Gatos).

Does America not have a patron saint?
Couldn't they have a St. George W. - his biggest miracle being that he became US president without being democratically elected.

Can't one become a saint by being martyred?

Not exactly South Bay, but there is quite a lot going on at the Starry Plough in Berkeley starting at 2:00 p.m. on the 16th -- not sure what they're actually doing on The Day.

I think whoever replaces Dubya will be in danger of being canonized just because they're not him.

The Oakland thing sounds brilliant, but if it's a pub you're after try the Plough & Stars in SF on Clement where you'll find Andrew McNamera and local band Quin.

Re: St. Patrick's Day in SF Bay area

if you are in town for longer than merely "the day," check the Plough & Stars web site & calendar and consider seeing andrew mac on another night, as he will be there several nights for a couple of weeks----it's a good choice for st. pat's night, but if you like clare/tulla-style dance music, an even better choice when the place isn't packed with drunken revelers....
