A Fiddle & Flute Duet

A Fiddle & Flute Duet

These instruments make for as a good a traditional music duet as you'll get and I'm sure many of you out there will be familiar with the celebrated recording some years ago by Sligo's Fred Finn (RIP) and Peter Horan who's still as active as ever up there in Gurteen. John Wynne and John McEvoy carry on this tradition on their new CD "Pride of the West". and you can hear two great tunes from the recording over at http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_245_1_john_mcevoy_and_john_wynne_play_at_the_nyah_festival/.

I seen them live in Enniskillen a few weeks ago, mighty fine stuff.

Re: A Fiddle & Flute Duet

That's a coincidence "Strayaway" that you should be first to comment as the jig played is the Strayaway Child. I was going to comment on this as it's only the second tune I've come across that was written by Michael Gorman, the Mountain Road reel being the first. If all the tunes he composed were up to this standard, then maybe we should make an effort to track down his other compositions!

Re: A Fiddle & Flute Duet

And indeed they played it at the gig. The jig, as you may well know, is also attributed to Margaret Barry. My session name was taken from the album "Strayaway" by CaoimhĂn Vallely on which "The Strayaway Child" is the first track.

Re: A Fiddle & Flute Duet

Definitely a small world "Strayway" and it's funny how these coincidences happen.
