Please, a text on re-building an Irish Flute

Folks, I have my great-grandfather's 6-key flute (NOT a Ruddal, Rose, and Hart) which is in pieces. I am pretty handy, having made and repaired lots of instruments, and would like to rebuild it myself. Are there resources you can lead me to? Catalog for parts? Someday I might be able to attend a repaiman's retreat, but I probably will try some work on my own with it befor then. Thanks!

I misread this as "a tax on rebuilding an Irish Flute" - and was surprised at how un-surprised I was that the b**tards would tax something like this. Now I've mentioned it, they probably will - so my advice is to hide it in the woods once you've built it.

Are there any parts missing?
If not just replace all the bindings/corks and check for air leaks everywhere. Adjust the stop cork and play...

yes, ask on the chiffboard that mcdevincabe posted. they will be able to help you. post a picture of the flute and then people will help you figure out how to fix it.

there is no catalog of parts. if you are missing keys they will either have to be custom made or gotten from scrap parts. corks can be gotten from wine bottles, pads can be made from synthetic foam or from pads from other instruments. cracks are a bit more complicated to fix, but it can be done; my flute had a crack the whole length of the headjoint and you cant even see it anymore.

good luck and i hope to see you on the flute forum!

Thanks for all the help, and a clarification : it will be a big job. I will get some pictures onto the site you suggested and keep you all aware of my progress. Hopefully, we will end with a little recording of me playing for you to hear. Then I can move on to his fiddle which probably was sat on.
