Hi - I'm moving from Boston to Prague for a year or so. I only see one session listed in the Czech Republic, but I was hoping someone could message me and let me know if there are people I should look up or if you all know of any musicians who will be passing through.
Also, I haven't been on here in a long, long while so I'm not sure who lurks around... but, if anyone I know doesn't know I'm moving... HOLY CRAP - I'M MOVING TO PRAGUE. (This is Jeremy, from Boston via Asheville).
It's a lovely city. Beware of the Brits on their stag/hen weekends in the centre at night! I can't help with the ITM bit I fear. It's a very musical place and I spotted signs to at least one fake Paddy's Bar just off Wenceslas Square - I steered well clear, but whether that was justified or not I don't know!
Anna (flute) and Michelle (fiddle) Rabova are in Prague as far as I know. They're good musicians.
I don't have any contact details though, only saw and heard them on a session in Germany a year or so ago.
My brother lived and worked there for a few years, and used to mention there being a few Irish musicians present at parties he'd been to, and maybe a session or two. So the music is probably there - it's just a case of finding it. The only thing I can suggest is to try contacting Sean Barry the harpist through his website http://www.seanbarry.cz/en/. I haven't seen him for 20-odd years, but he's the only expat trad muso I know of who I can say is definitely in Prague because my brother met up with him relatively recently. If anyone knows the local musos, he will, particularly given that he's apparently fluent in Czech.
If you're going soon ie between 14th and 20th March, you'll catch the Irish Music Festival. Dave Morrisey is performing on 14th and 20th. Based in the Irish Bar and Old Town Square + Plzen brewery. Other than that, Sean Barry - as Dow says - will know all the best spots.

Re: Musicians in Prague
Rene was in this band, looks like he left but could be a good starting point.
