Yes and yes. I strongly recommend Katie and Charlie Peteranna's B&B, an easy walk to some of the events. They're very good about transport via shuttle bus, too; you'll get where you need to go.
I had very mixed feelings about this event, but there is a lot to be gained from it, certainly. I don't know if it's as Gaelic-language-centric as it was when I went a few years ago. It actually seemed as if this were more important than the music, which disappointed me. At that time, also, they charged a separate fee for all activities that weren't part of the classes; it can be easy to run out of money! But maybe they aren't still doing this; you can ask.
You might try to learn something about the subjects that really interest you before you go. I didn't feel there was much of a place for beginners in anything.
All that said, there are great things to be found at Ceolas, and South Uist is beautiful.
The web site makes it look fairly intense. I have sung a bit in Irish but I haven't got any gift for languages so I find it a bit of a struggle. I really fancy doing the work songs and puirt a Beul as you don't tend to find that sort of thing much elsewhere.
It does look as if they charge for all the other events - so will probably have to live on beans until Christmas
ceolas - music school south uist
ceolas - music school south uist
Has anyone here ever been to this.
I am seriously thinking about trudging up from deepest darkest Sheffield and trying to learn mouth music and other stuff.
If you have been is there any cheap accomodation nearby.
Thanks
Julie

Thanks for the feedback. That's really helpful.
