What are these tunes?

What are these tunes?

First: http://www.sendspace.com/file/dafk24

Leading tune is "General Stuart's Reel", or "The Stuart's Rant" - I have the sheetmusic, and will post it here soon. What are other tunes in the set?

Second: http://www.shadyglen.ru/music/45f71b541e3f6.mp3

There are two tunes there, first is Lady Catherine Bruce's Reel (although it is a jig in fact), also called Laird o'Cockpen. What is the second one? And do you have any ideas on some other scottish jigs to add to this set?

Third: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9hzpvi

This is a strathspey set, the first tune is Braes of Breadalbane (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/8091). What are the others?

...even if you don't know the tunes, you'll enjoy the music, I hope :)

Re: What are these tunes?

No idea about the tunes, but thanks for sharing the stuff. I've just made it a Tionol with Chris Norman and he's stirred the waters in my view about Scottish music and flute.

I particularly enjoyed the Strathspeys. The one before the last one is inspiring.

Re: What are these tunes?

I don't have any idea on who is playing. The first one sounds like stuff from RSCDS CD's, but I don't know if it is true. Others - I just dont know, but would like to.

A Russian Scottish Country Dance Band? Is this your gang breqwas?

If only I read Cyrillic and Russian... :-(

Re: What are these tunes?

Knowing the artists would be a great help... But alas... RSCDS recordings seem to be infinite in numbers, and fond of the self-composed... Good luck finding the titles...

Re: What are these tunes?

Shadyglen is a SCD school, and I have been studying there for some time. But later I found that playing music for these dances ca be more fun then dancing itself, so now I'm trying to make up a band. :)

If only SCD music was represented on the web as good as ITM...

Re: What are these tunes?

Can't help with the name but the second tune in the General Stuart's Reel set is played a *very* often on program's like BBC Radio Scotlands 'Take the Floor' (on the web). I would have thought that that one at least would repay some effort to allow an ABC search.

I really enjoyed the Strathspeys. I just feel uneasy when people spend thousands of hours getting to play so well and then we get to enjoy it without even knowing who they are.

Re: What are these tunes?

The second reel on the first recording is Miss Monaghan:

Re: What are these tunes?

I've always known the first (and third) jig as "Cat in the Hopper". Anyone else? Nice bunch of tunes altogether!

Re: What are these tunes?

I'm going to have to persevere and download these for a listen, maybe late tonight. I was having some difficulty with them earlier, a bad connection I suspect. "Cat in the Hopper" rings bells, is this it?

Re: What are these tunes?

If anyone knows who the fiddler is on the strathspeys I'd be interested to know! I can actually play tunes 2 and 4 of the set but I can't think of the names right now!

Re: What are these tunes?

I also wish I knew who's that. He's really great.

Re: What are these tunes?

Well, I think I've found the source of the first set, but I'm not sure (all I have is the picture of the CD booklet, made a few monthes ago in order to borrow some sets from there).

It is supposed to be Stewart's Rant / Jenny Dang the Waver / Colonel Rodney / Jane's Reel

The first three can be found here at TSO, but there's some weird version of Colonel Rodney on that track - I'm not even sure it is that tune. The last one is (c) Kim McGarrity, 1997, and I don't have the sheetmusic.

The first jig set - yes, that seems to be these tunes, or at leas versions of them. Thank you very much!

And I still hope to find the strathspeys. They are really, really worth playing...

That's not the set on the sound clip. See above.
