Have a look at

http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/1

the first discussion on the new thesession site. I'm not sure what was around before that page...

From Jeremy's journal at adactio http://adactio.com/journal/1355. Jeremy Keith developed The Session website:

<snip>
The Session
1999? Original site with no domain
Very little interaction. Weekly updates: a new tune. Email subscribers.

Relaunch, June 3rd 2001, thesession.org
Member profiles and tunebooks. User-submitted tunes, recordings and links. Discussions.
</snip>

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

In the beginning, Jeremy would post a new tune each week. Many of these were old chestnuts. After a while of this, some of us began lobbying him to open the site so that we could contribute tunes, too. My hunch is that he was thinking of doing this anyway.

Roisinrua, if you run your cursor over a member's screen name, you'll see their membership number down at the bottom of your screen. The lower the number, the longer they've been a member here.

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

It's interesting to see how few of the original members still actively participate in the Discussions...

Will, Backer, and I'm struggling to remember what NameChangesRConfusing's name was back then. ;-}

To paraphrase a Zina Lee comment from ages ago... "It's *all* already been discussed..." ;-)

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

Clarification: Not necessarily "original members", but "folks who participated in that Discussion #1..."

Have a look at the site dating back 2001

How many times has the topic of changing the ugly mustard color come up?
It's purdy bad.

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

I think we've grown fond of this colour no matter what some people say. I wouldn't want to hear the outcry if it was ever changed.

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

Actually, you can go in and change the color in the page characteristics. (Right click territory) Handy if you need it to look like Microsoft Word or other work sort of environment.

But mustard is so.....homey. I had to change it back to the original yella.

Re: Lads, What year did this .thesession. start up?

The colour, of course, is to disguise the stains of beer, whisky, fish / chips / jumbo sausage fat, nicotine, lentil soup, banoffee pie, peanut butter and whatever else might get smeared on it by Sessioners, House-Elves and whoever else dwells next to or within the computer.

Not to mention curry sauce, possibly the nearest equivalent.

But maple syrup, and Vegemite, will show up - they're too dark.

Never mind the colour- has anyone calculated the (wo)man hours lost to the economy since the creation of this site?
