Hi2all!
In a desire to sing I wonder what examples of IT-singing I could hear to, except Cathy Jordan and Karan Casey (they are very good but I hope to find smth else). Could u please give me some tips about what to listen to. Women likely. But I mean the real sean-nos not the fake one sounding academicaly and called "irish trad. singing" just 'cause the words "Dublin" or "Erin" are used. I wanna find a lilting, stylish vocal to listen to.
Sean nos + stylish vocal?
I wouldn't call my favourite singers Niamh Parsons or Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh stylish. I look for determination, and a certain fierceness.
For female singing in English, you can't beat the women of the north. The direct, powerful singing of Rosie Stewart from county Fermanagh or Roisin White from county Down will stay with you far longer than anything by Cathy Jordan or Karan Casey.
In the category Sean Nos I will second Roisin El-Saftay.
In the category "not exactly Sean Nos but" it would have to be Sara and Rita Keane and of course there's no discussion of female Irish singers that is complete without mentioning Dolores Keane.
She is a native Irish speaker, has a lovely voice and recently came out with an album that features songs written from her father's poetry. If you ever get a chance to see her at John Benny's Pub in Dingle (Wed night singing session, Tommy O'Sullivan is usually there, too), do it! She has a large sean nos repetoire with many local songs.

Aine Meenaghen is the real deal. I heard her a couple of years ago and was smitten! She has a CD, Thug Me Gru Duit; I haven't heard it.

Not exactly Sean Nós but two great exponents of Irish Trad singing
Deirdre Scanlan, Co Tip (anything by, her Solas-less)
Rita Gallagher - Donegal
Nora Butler - Co Tip
