Ronan Browne on 'Mooney'

Ronan Browne on 'Mooney'

Ronan Browne appeared on RTÉ 1's 'Mooney' show this afternoon talking about the uilleann pipes in connection with the forthcoming NPU DVD 'Pipers' Choice' featuring himself, Liam O'Flynn and Tommy Keane (released on 28th Feb). Apart from chatting about the instrument's history and demonstrating its various elements, in typically witty style, he plays the first part of 'The Beauty Spot'. Séamus Ennis's version of 'The Fox Chase' is also featured. Interestingly too, NPU is starting on-line lessons for pipers from March (http://www.pipers.ie).

The interview with Ronan begins roughly twelve minutes into the programme and lasts some seventeen minutes without interruption by ads. It should be available at http://www.rte.ie.

The producer of the 'Mooney' show is now Jim Lockhart (formerly of Horslips) which might explain why its begun to include some serious music features - Christy Moore was on one afternoon last week talking about Woody Guthrie (sorry, I can't remember the specific date).

Oh, and Ronan's voice is a little hoarse because he was out in his garden with the strimmer on Monday and got a bad attack of hay fever.

Breaking news - Trappatoni has just been appointed by the national team's manager by the FAI.
