Re: Danny Boy

Ugh! :-P That is one of the worst takes I've heard...

Now if only Robert Johnson were around to give it a go, with some adjustments to the usual lyrics... 8-)

Re: Danny Boy

Don't forget that it was an old Irish air called Maidin in mBéara (Morning in Béara) before someone added the sugary lyrics and ruined it forever.

The best version I ever heard was by Peter Browne on the pipes.

The problem is that if anyone goes near it now, it's always associated with soppy Irish Americans.

Re: Danny Boy

A beautiful song and air.

In the Muppets video, did I spot my hero and inspiration "Animal", second best drummer of all time.

Re: Danny Boy

We played a 90th birthday party yesterday, they had requested Irish music, as well as a bunch of other stuff (like Willie Nelson). One of the grand daughters was asked to sing Danny Boy, so we obliged. (She was very good, BTW). I thought it was sweet, and appropriate, as an Irish American tribute to her grandma.

Re: Danny Boy

Well said Wyogal, let the begrudgers moan and pretend to be "purists". If a tune is good, it doesn't matter how hackneyed it becomes.

Re: Danny Boy

Now let's have a rendering by Ravi Shankar.
