We desperately need Irish music fests, by Irish, including Irish musicians for the general community. Check this one, please speak with Kevin D, he's kicked it off, but he'd welcome a revamp I'd say. HUGE opportunity. http://www.irishmusicianssydney.com/
I have to applaud the efforts of the people down under in creating an interesting new trad festival in Sydney that I hope will grow and grow. However, I hope that they re-visit the "Fleadh Nua" title for this event in order to avoid any possible confusion. Fleadh Nua has been in Ennis for more than thirty consecutive years now and some details for 2008 are given at http://comhaltas.ie/events/detail/fleadh_nua_2008/. Having been to a recent committee meeting I know that some exciting things are being planned for this year that will be publicised shortly. It also looks as though Tommy Peoples will be one of the headline acts at the Celebrity Concert.
The "fleadh nua" on that website isn't in Sydney, Banner, Kevin chooses varying country towns in Oz, which can be a problem...they are very Australian ironically, and not in to Irish music - rugby league football more likely, know what I mean.
There is quite a market for good ITM here - and song - as Kevin knows - Kevin is from Dublin and has been here for longer than most people have been born - but if there is anyone who wants to build this up, please do contact him, because it is a big job, I feel, and maybe Kevin does too, for one man now.
Apologies for premature push of "post" button. I mean't to say that for set dancing fans out there, céilís will be held each night from Thursday 22 May until Monday 26 May with bands such as the Tulla, Kilfenora, Abbey, Four Courts, etc. The Turloughmore will take part in a special concert with Cork singer, Seán Ó Sé in Cois na hAbhna on Wednesday 21 May.
Have a look at the Gundagai festival in NSW around sept 2008, much better than any of the other festivals around the place with a great feel and fantastic ITM there last year. I would put it above the National and Gulburn any day!!

You'll find a list of around 40 or so Fleadh Cheoil festivals for 2008 listed over on the Comhaltas site at http://comhaltas.ie/blog/post/2008_fleadh_schedule/.
